The entrance to Liverpool Lime Street Train Station has been rejuvenated using UltraScape Cempoint.
The entrance area to Lime Street Station has been rejuvenated using Ultrascape materials. The improvements were made using Pro-Bed HS bedding mortar, Pro-Prime slurry primer, Flowpoint ECO flowable grout and Cempoint gun injected mortar. The four products are proven to be BS 7533 compliant under UKAS testing methods.
UltraScape’s BS 7533 materials have been used extensively throughout Liverpool city centre and therefore were preferred for Lime Street station based on their good reputation.
The project was a total of 4000m² incorporating large hard landscaping with improved access, steps, planters and specialist paving with artists’ impressions engraved in it. UltraScape Pro-Bed HS was supplied in bulk to Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering who were contracted to complete the project. 30 tonne silos of material were delivered to the project’s location, an ideal supply for such large developments.
UltraScape’s renowned flowable grout, Flowpoint was chosen. The product is available in regular and an ECO grade, which contains 20% recycled material. Flowpoint ECO was ideal for Lime Street station, allowing the large area to be grouted with ease and then simply washed clean finishing the specialist paving. Due to the product’s rapid setting performance, paving grouted with Flowpoint can be opened to pedestrians in just 1 hour and vehicular traffic after only 4 hours, minimising disruption.
Small/intricate, vertical areas are often difficult to grout. Used in conjunction with Flowpoint, UltraScape Cempoint, a hand-held gun injected mortar, is ideal for such pointing and was used for this project. Fast and easy to apply, with no wastage, it neatly and directly fills the paving joint. Supplied as a pre-blended product, requiring only the addition of water on-site, reducing the potential for colour variance and workmanship issues during installation. Cempoint provided the perfect solution for the vertical joints in the station’s entrance steps.
UltraScape Cempoint is suitable for joint widths of between 5-25mm and in joint depths of 25-100mm. The product is resistant to freeze/thaw weather conditions and is shrinkage compensated.
The project finished in January and the station is now servicing hundreds of commuters in and out of the city, who find access to the station a lot easier. The longevity of the station has been secured as the British Standard, 7533 promotes professional results that can give a minimum construction life of 40 years.
