Celebrations are aplenty at Instarmac, as Gary Pierce, Senior Sales Manager, is reminiscing on his 30 years service at Wondertex.
In this special article, Gary shares some of his favourite memories over the last thirty years.
“I may have joined Wondertex in 1990 but it actually began much earlier than that. My Dad was one of the first employees at Wondertex when it was established in 1970. They were making products in a chicken shed back then – hard to believe now.
“When they had outgrown the chicken shed, they moved to a bigger building which happened to be on a farm. I had great fun visiting the farm with Dad when I was a little boy. I also had vivid memories of answering our home telephone and taking orders from contractors from about the age of 12.”
In 1982, Wondertex was purchased by RMC and moved to its first modernised production and warehouse facility in Littlehampton. It was during this time, that whilst studying, Gary worked in production before joining the administration team full time in March 1990.
“It wasn’t just me either! As well as my Dad being Director, my Nan, Brother, Sister and Uncle have all worked at Wondertex at some point in their career – it’s clearly in the Pierce blood! Me and Dad would also rope in family and friends as we would often spend our weekends testing new formulations on their ceilings and walls – luckily we never had any disasters!
“I have had many job roles throughout my career at Wondertex including Administrator, Production Manager, Sales Office Manager and General Manager. It’s given me a great understanding of the industry and what characteristics are expected of our products.”
Gary has been part of the Instarmac team since 2013 when Wondertex joined their award-winning portfolio of products. As Senior Sales Manager, Gary is able to utilise his 30 years of experience to deliver the much-loved range of drylining, jointing and decorative texturing products to Dryliners and Decorators across the UK.
“There have been many changes in the last 30 years but the one constant is the quality of people I’ve been fortunate enough to be surrounded by.
“From everyone working on the machines, to the people in the office keeping me on the straight and narrow, to the Drivers of our trucks today and all the managers along the way – it’s the people that make a business. Thank you all for making Wondertex the strong and reliable brand that it is.”

For the last 18 months we have fully adopted a HAPAS approved reinstatement system for ironwork and we have had no failures at all. As a result of this, we have also now upgraded the County’s Code of Practice for Ironwork so that the use of HAPAS & CD534 materials are specified.
