Award-winning manufacturer, Instarmac Group plc, are honoured to support the National Memorial’s Arboretum campaign to rebuild the compelling ‘Shot at Dawn’ memorial.
Over 300,000 people visit the National Memorial Arboretum every year to see the moving memorials, nestled amongst 25,000 trees.
Shot at Dawn remains one of the most popular memorials at the Arboretum and commemorates the 309 British and Commonwealth solders who were shot for cowardice, desertion and sleeping at post, during World War One.
First dedicated in 2001, Shot at Dawn is located at the most easterly part of the Arboretum where the sun rises first. Sadly, over the years, the memorial has suffered from repeated winter flooding resulting in the posts being replaced every few years.
Over the last 12 months, the National Memorial Arboretum have been campaigning to raise the critical funds needed to upgrade all the posts to a more durable recycled material eliminating the need to replace the posts in the future.
To help the Arboretum reach their campaign goals, Instarmac Group plc, were delighted to donate ten pallets of Post Fix rapid hardening concrete to securely fix the 309 posts in place.
To celebrate the re-opening of Shot at Dawn, on Friday 21 June the National Memorial Arboretum was joined by sculptor Andy Decomyn, and Janet Booth, granddaughter of Harry Farr who was executed for cowardice in 1916.
