Instarmac supports National Volunteering Week

On a balmy day in June, five members of the Instarmac team headed over to Brewood Scout Hut and Community Hub to transform their car park from drab and dangerous to safe and spectacular.

In order to best utilise the area, the Instarmac volunteers began their day by marking out and measuring fourteen brand new car park spaces, along with two additional disabled spaces, and installed the necessary lines using UltraCrete Instaline thermoplastic road marking in white and yellow respectively.

For the final flourish, the Instarmac team used UltraCrete SCJ seal and tack coat spray and Tough Patch® 6mm cold lay surfacing material to permanently repair two potholes – the first of which was located at the top of one of the parking bays and the second at the entrance to the car park.

What’s more, Instarmac’s most famous team member, Pothole Pete, made a surprise appearance and helped to educate the next generation on how to properly repair a pothole – a visit that certainly went down a treat with the Beavers and Scouts.

Brewood Group Scout Leader, Sarah Northfield, commented: “Before it was just a plain car park, there were no bays and sometimes it was a bit dangerous for the children running about because we weren’t quite sure where all the cars were going. Now, all the bays are completely marked out. It is really clear for everyone to see and we even have two disabled places. It makes the car park so much safer.”

On the importance of volunteering, Sarah continued: “Without volunteers, we wouldn’t be able to run. I’m a volunteer and all the other leaders are volunteers too but it’s also all the people behind the scenes that important as well. Without them we wouldn’t be able to offer the services to the children to help them grow into bigger, better and stronger people for the next generation.”

National Volunteering Week is an annual celebration of the contribution millions of people make across the UK through volunteering initiatives in their communities. You can find out more about National Volunteering Week by visiting volunteersweek.org.
