UltraFloor is ‘nessie-cessary’ at popular Scottish tourist attraction

UltraFloor are delighted to have played a part in the £1.5 million refurbishment of The Loch Ness Centre and Exhibition.

Background

Located at the heart of one of world’s biggest mysteries, visitors to The Loch Ness Centre walk through 500 million years of history to delve deeper into ancient Scottish myths and legends.

In exciting news, in Spring 2023, The Loch Ness Centre underwent a £1.5 million major refurbishment of the centre and exhibition.

The Challenge

With only 12 weeks to complete the entire refurbishment, it was critical that each element of the build was completed on time so not to delay the opening. In addition to a quick turnaround, the flooring also needed to be durable enough to withstand the thousands of people who embark on the Loch Ness tour each year.

The Solution

UltraFloor have a reputation for providing the tourist industry with quality and innovative subfloor preparation materials. For this project, flooring experts Gilham Flooring Ltd used a selection of UltraFloor materials to achieve subfloor smoothness across the 270sqm area.

The centre was made up of two different substrates. To prepare the sand and cement concrete floor, which was reading high for moisture, Gilham Flooring Ltd began by coating the entire area with DPM IT damp proof membrane. The following day, Level IT Hydra Bond was applied in preparation for Tarkett Inspirations LVT in a herringbone design.

Level IT Hydra Bond is a ground-breaking, water based floor leveller that can be applied to bitumen and adhesive residues. Formulated for use in highly trafficked areas, Level IT Hydra Bond is guaranteed to have a super smooth finish and is easy to apply – ideal for creating a lump-free subfloor, eliminating dangerous trip hazards for visitors and staff when moving around the exhibition centre.

What’s more, Level IT Hydra Bond utilises UltraFloor’s unique Envirobead® technology – a process which enhances application and boasts unrivalled flow properties. It can receive bonded floor coverings after 4 hours and has an extended working time of 45 minutes for optimal usability.

The front of the building featured a timber subfloor which was overlayed with flooring grade plywood. Once secured, the entire area was primed with UltraFloor Prime IT Multi-surface Primer and once cured, Level IT Bond was applied.

Results

Visitors to The Loch Ness Centre are now enjoying fantastic new facilities as they embark on an ‘unforgettable journey into the world of the Loch Ness monster’.

On using UltraFloor, Gilham Flooring Ltd commented: “We were really pleased with the performance of the products and the price is excellent for the finish they leave. UltraFloor is now our go-to brand for floor preparation products.”
