UltraFloor Transforms Float Spa with Exceptional Flooring Solutions

UltraFloor, a leading provider of high-quality subfloor preparation solutions, is thrilled to have partnered with Lee Sullivan Contract Flooring to bring their expertise to a 400sqm project at a luxurious spa located in the seaside town of Hove.

Background

Since it opened its doors earlier this year, Float Spa Hove has very quickly become the number one destination for yoga, floating, massage therapy and much more.

The Challenge

The building that now serves as a tranquil haven for relaxation and wellbeing had a much different past life. Originally a bank, the building presented several challenges that needed to be overcome during the restoration process.

The subfloor was layered with old bitumen and residue, moisture had seeped into the concrete foundations and perhaps the most daunting obstacle was the potential presence of asbestos.

The Solution

The expertise of Lee Sullivan Contract Flooring and the superb performance of UltraFloor’s subfloor preparation portfolio meant these challenges were, thankfully, easily overcome.

To begin, the team removed six layers of old flooring and loose screed and tested the substrate for asbestos. Once given the all clear, the existing bitumen could be grinded away before two coats of Prime IT Multi-surface Primer were applied.

Formulated to promote the adhesion to all UltraFloor smoothing underlayments, Prime IT Multi-surface Primer reduces pinholing, minimising the risk of costly failures. With a coverage rate of 200sqm at 3:1 dilution, Prime IT Multi-surface Primer is a must-have product for all flooring installation projects.

Once cured, Level IT Base deep fill smoothing underlayment was trowel applied to a 45mm depth. Level IT Base is a heavy duty, deep fill smoothing underlayment, formulated to build depths of up to 50mm thickness. Level IT Base also boasts a high compressive strength, is moisture tolerant and can receive foot traffic after just 3 hours.

To prepare the floor for the final covering, DPM IT damp proof membrane was applied, followed by a neat coat of Prime IT Multi-surface Primer. Finally, Level IT Renovate was applied at a thickness of 5mm.

Developed for the renovation of existing floors, Level IT Renovate is fibre reinforced for added strength and to minimise the risk of hairline cracks – reducing a common cause of failure.

Suitable for deep applications from 3-40mm, Level IT Renovate is multi-purpose for extensive use and boasts excellence flow properties, making this flexible and versatile floor leveller ideal for a wide range of flooring substrates.

After just 4 hours, Lee Sullivan Contract Flooring were able to apply the Altro Walkway and Wood Safety Flooring.

Results

On choosing UltraFloor, Tommy Sullivan, Director of Lee Sullivan Contract Flooring, commented: “There were many reasons why we chose UltraFloor. The compressive strength, price and support from our Area Sales Manager are just some of them.

“The products were smooth to apply with a fantastic finish, leaving the subfloor perfect for application of the overlay.”
