Instarmac International’s BS 7533 compliant mortar paving system has been specified to install paving at the Royal Bank of Canada’s new headquarters in Dandara’s stunning development on the Esplanade, St Helier, Jersey.
The new Esplanade Quarter straddles the boundary between St Helier’s stylish new waterfront and the old town. The highest quality materials were utilised for the new Royal Bank of Canada building and its surrounding area and it has become a landmark building in the financial quarter since its recent completion.
The challenge
It was important to create a stylish and safe externally landscaped environment that echoed the iconic new bank building with its idyllic seafront setting and spectacular bay views.
Effective paving products were needed to withstand the heavy vehicular traffic, a sea/saltwater environment and a variety of weather conditions and temperatures. Additionally, it was critical to ensure the longevity of the development as well as retaining cost effectiveness.
The solution
Landscape and Property Services contractor Augres worked closely with property developer Dandara, to ensure the highest quality products were used for the development. UltraScape’s BS 7533 system was specified comprising of Flowpoint standard flowable grout, Pro-Prime slurry primer and Pro-bed HS bedding mortar.
With a construction life in excess of 40 years, UltraScape’s BS 7533 system was used to install 700m² of coloured granite. The system is robust enough to withstand both pedestrians entering the building and cars dropping people off at the entrance, whilst still remaining aesthetically pleasing and complementing the built environment and waterfront location. Its rapid setting properties were also key, as it enabled pedestrian areas to be opened to traffic in as little as 12 hours and vehicular in as little as 24 hours.
The results
Patrick Ryan, Director of Augres said: “The feedback regarding the development has been excellent. This building is a very prestigious project and has been cited as the largest building in Jersey. It was paramount that the best possible products were used throughout and that included the external landscaping. As well as aesthetic appeal, the sustainability of the outside space was critical, particularly with the high footfall at the entrance to the building. We have been very impressed with the UltraScape products and their value for money and are confident that they will continue to work in terms of place, purpose and people in the years to come.”
