In a time where being environmentally responsible is more important than ever, UltraTile are extremely honoured to have won the Best Environmental Initiative at the 2022 Tile Association Awards.
“We have worked really hard over the last 12 months to be as green as possible. Our new solar farm, CNG lorries and recycled packaging are just a few of the changes we have recently made. I’ve always been really proud of our environment commitments and it’s fantastic to be recognised by the tiling industry too.” Jason Reid, UltraTile Brand Manager.
In early 2022, UltraTile invested over £420,000 to install state-of-the-art solar panels at their world-class manufacturing facility in Tamworth. Renewable energy specialists, Perfect Sense Energy, installed 1656 solar panels across a 3,771sqm area – the largest installation tackled by the company so far.
The 768KW solar panels will generate 680,000KW of clean green energy for UltraTile to use and are projected to save at least 36,000KW of power per month. Over the lifespan of the new system, UltraTile are expected to produce over 15 million KW of green power which will save over 4,000 tonnes of CO₂.
UltraTile pride themselves on their sustainability practices and all of their high performance tile adhesives and grouts are produced at their world-class facility which utilises the most sustainable manufacturing processes possible.
By adapting these manufacturing processes, UltraTile are delighted to report that in 2020, their carbon footprint was measured at 3303.53 tonnes per CO₂E – a 16% improvement compared to the previous year.
All UltraTile materials are delivered to their customers on their 35-strong, privately owned fleet which now includes two CNG lorries. The introduction of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles will result in a reduction of CO₂ emissions by 115 tonnes per truck, per year. UltraTile are fully committed to using fuel alternatives and aim to have 25% of their fleet running on CNG by the end of 2024, and 60% by the end of 2025.
UltraTile are helping their customers reduce their own carbon footprint with the introduction of ProLevel Ultimate – a water-based floor leveller that contains 20% recycled material. What’s more, their external tiling products, ProPave Grout and ProPave Primer, are now available in buckets made from 100% recycled material, which can also be recycled – a huge step forward for UltraTile and the tiling industry as a whole.
Other initiatives successfully implemented at UltraTile include a pallet recycling scheme, intelligent lighting, grey water system and climate control. They have also proudly been zero waste to landfill since 2014 – this means that 100% of manufacturing waste is recycled and not sent to landfill.
