How to Prevent Grout Haze

One of the most common grouting issues that even the most experienced tilers can have, is removing grout haze. UltraTile’s Grout Aid prevents this, saving you time and effort on your next job.

Grout film and hazing occurs when a thin layer of grout residue is left on the surface after grouting, which can be tricky to remove.

One of the most effective methods to avoid this issue is to choose the right grout for your project. Opting for a high-quality, polymer-modified grout can significantly reduce the likelihood of haze formation. In this instance, we would recommend UltraTile’s ProGrout Flexible, which is suitable for all tile types and is available in 14 stunning colours.

To avoid grout haze, it is essential to take preventative measures during the installation process. ProClean Grout Aid is a final rinse additive that prevents grout haze from occurring, reducing post installation problems such as patchy grout colours and efflorescence blooming, and provides an easy wash-down of your natural stone, ceramic and porcelain tiles, including:

  • Sandstone
  • Porcelain
  • Slate
  • Ceramic
  • Terracotta
  • Quarry tile
  • Granite
  • Non acid-sensitive tiled surfaces

4 Easy steps to use Grout Aid:

  • Add 100-200ml per 5 litres of clean water in a bucket. Mix well.
  • Proceed to use as normal with a grouting sponge or a tiler’s washboy to clean.
  • Allow this to dry for 2-5 minutes. On rough or textured tiles, it may be necessary for a second wash down.
  • If using Grout Aid indoors ensure good ventilation during and after use.
